Law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty in Massachusetts

Police Officer Thomas Keefe succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained eight days earlier after arresting two burglary suspects.

As Officer Keefe was talking with the suspects, an uncle and his nephew, the uncle fired a pistol from inside his coat pocket. Both suspects were apprehended a short time later. The uncle was convicted of second degree murder on October 18, 1902. His nephew was acquitted.

Officer Keefe was survived by his wife and eight children.
